Thanksgiving 2004

Yummmm Yum. We went to eat a Thanksgiving meal at the house of Grant and his wife. Grant is Shawn’s brother and Shawn is one of Hubby’s coworkers. I had no idea on how else to explain that… teehee. So it was only three couples and their 2 little babies (each family has one). We took chocolate cake and the two ladies, Liza and Lena (I am not too sure of her name. They said it so fast and I felt weird asking about it later), cooked soooooooo much food! And it was great too.

So there we go, my day to eat all I wanted! Although, I did abstain from the bread and only picked at my husband's cake instead of getting apiece for myself. ^_^ How great am I?!

We had broccoli casserole, green bean casserole, sweet potato pie, stuffing, beans and green beans, mashed potatoes, breads of several sorts, fruit salad, pasta salad, ham, and the big turkey. I had seconds of the broccoli and green bean casserole. The guys had seconds on the other things, but skipped the green. Hahaha. After the meal we sat down to watch the football game. Dallas won!

THANKSGIVING DAY MIRACLE!

We had a very nice evening indeed.

Bye-bye bread

I haven’t been doing a ‘diet-diet’ per say. I am simply trying to avoid overeating as much as I am used to. I have a light breakfast of eggs or fruits, my lunch which usually is tuna with cheese or corn with cheese, then dinner with husband, which can be pretty much anything we’re in the mood of cooking.

I haven’t bought bread in a week because I’ve decided to completely stop with those type of calories and carbs. However, I do have my stash of breads and pastas in the pantry which I will continue to use from time-to-time until they are completely finished. Like today. Today I made meatloaf (my husband really likes my meatloaf and he asked for it again) and accompanied it with sliced cucumber as a salad, and a serving of Chinese (or Vietnamese) vermicelli (an extremely thin pasta, finer than angel hair).

That was pretty yummy. It had a little bit of everything, the meat, the flours, the greens, sugar (from the tomato sauce), and hmmm no oils, but that’s good. But now I find myself hungry. Very, very hungry.

And I know it’s no real hunger… it’s like cravings. But my body Feels hungry…

Any ideas on how to overcome that? I am going to eat tuna (no carbs!) to calm it down, but still… how does one get rid of the darn cravings?!

No Pizza for a While

Shut… I’ve done fine all these day. Been having a moderate breakfast, which generally included toast with a bit of honey (or scrambled eggs), a glass of milk or warm chocolate. Lunches include a serving of whatever my grandma made (she was visiting ^_^ ) which could be rice, beans, zucchini with cheese, or chile en salsa, etc, etc, etc. Dinners are generally not… done… since I hate doing any sort of cooking at night.

Except for today. As I mentioned to you earlier, I skipped breakfast, had lunch outside at the Texas Roadhouse which went unfinished… and then friends came over and I made nice yummy meatloaf and friend chicken. Had my serving and skipped the skin.

But yesterday… gahhh

Husband was feeling hungry and he asked if I wanted pizza. My mouth watered and I said yes! He ordered Domino’s double layer beef pizza for him (I don’t like that one) and a medium thin crust olives pizza for me. I didn’t finish the pizza… but… I was close to.

Big mistake…

Thirty minutes later I was puking to the point that it snorted out of my nose, tears streaming down, while my skin prickled all over and my stomach felt as if it was begin pressed. I ain’t eating any more pizza for a while…

And I really shouldn’t eat too late at night anymore.

Interesting Horoscope

I had not checked my hotmail addy since the weekend so I began going through mails, spam and all that. I found a Keen Horoscope for Tuesday, November 2. It reads:

Partnerships endure great growth today, and an agreement you reach with a companion today will be a long lasting and binding pledge. There is something secretive about it all that makes things a little more special and exciting.

This is the day that Neph and I agreed to be each other's weightloss partner. WOW!!!

Who says these things aren't real?!

Let's start from the Beginning

The start to a total turn-about for my body is now. I've got myself a partner that can understand what I feel, what I ache, and what I can detest: Another woman. We are both married, happy, and in need of motivation. ^_^ We also enjoy writing in fantasy RPGs so there's our stress reliever!

We got to talking and said "let's be weight-loss buddies!" and so now we start.

I don't want to be in some army-like regime because I know I simply can't stick to that... I want something a normal person that is used to very bad habits can adopt. So we will try to avoid eating something 'unhealthy' on a daily basis and be proud of ourselves for not succumbing to that lust!

A little info on health related stuff would be good too, so here's something I came across to today:

I just got my body fat percentage from Yahoo's Health pages. Says that my total weight is about 46.5 percent fat. That's like... almost half! Which probably means I gotta lose at least 30% of my weight to be healthier.

I read through some articles and noticed several conditions that I may be developing (or could if I don't turn around my habits now!):

  • Heart Disease and Stroke - being overweight causes high blood pressure which in turn is a factor that may cause hear disease and strokes.
  • Type 2 Diabetes - overweight people are at risk of developing it... but i think it also depends on the family history. Better safe than sorry, though.
  • Cancer - overweight women may get cancer of the uterus, gallbladder, cervix, ovary, breast, and colon. I have ovarian cysts and the doc recommended weight loss and exercise. Not sure if I got those from the actual weight or something else.
  • Sleep Apnea - This is when the person stops breathing for seconds at a time during sleep, it also causes a lot of snoring. I'd have to ask my husband about that... I know I snore when I am very tired, but I am not sure of the frequency of this.
  • Osteoarthritis - joint problems at the knees, hips, and lower back. Makes sense, the heavier one is, the more strain the joints have. I cannot run and my ankles are under a lot of pain... then again, even when I was thin I had a lot of ankle pain, but definitely now more than before.
  • Gout - "Gout is a joint disease caused by high levels of uric acid in the blood." um... same as the previous one?
  • Gallbladder Disease - weight can also give gallstones, higher risk on those of us that are heavier. I haven't noticed any gallbladder pain... that's good. ^_^

Okay well, recommendations in the article included losing weight (of course), and to do so we should do it slow and steady, trying to get away from fad diets and miracle promises. A pound-a-week is true weight lost while one-a-day may be nothing more than body water.

My weight-loss partner and I need to Eat Better ("Try to eat a variety of foods, especially pasta, rice, bread, and other whole-grain foods." YEYNESS!). Also a little added exercise can help. I'll be looking into easy things that starting ladies with our schedules can do without too much pain.
